Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a complete pond restoration take?
Most domestic pond restorations and "fresh starts" take between 1 to 4 days to complete, depending on the size of the feature, the depth of the silt, and whether a new EPDM liner needs to be installed. We will give you a clear, fixed timeline during your initial site consultation.
What happens to the fish and wildlife during a restoration?
The safety of your pond's ecosystem is our absolute priority. Before we drain the water, we set up dedicated holding tanks with oxygenated water on your property. We safely catch and transfer all fish, newts, frogs, and insects into these tanks, keeping them safe and comfortable until your pond is clean, refilled, and ready for them to return.
My pond is losing water. Can you find and fix the leak?
Yes. If your water level drops drastically and stops at a specific point, it usually indicates a puncture in the liner or a split in a pipe. As Firestone trained liner specialists, we can locate the puncture, assess if a secure, watertight repair patch is possible, or replace the entire liner if the old material has degraded past its lifespan.
Will a restoration clear up my blanketweed and green water problems?
A fresh start completely removes the years of built-in organic nutrients and sludge fuelling the weed growth. Combined with our status as an Oase Approved Installer, we can install or upgrade your filtration and UV clarifier systems providing you with crystal-clear water moving forward.
Can you fix old, crumbling stone or brickwork around my pond?
Yes, absolutely! Our team handles all aspects of your ponds building and masonry. Whether your stone borders are slipping, brickwork is cracking, or a feature wall needs a complete rebuild, we’ll make it safe, solid, and beautiful again. We carefully source materials that match your garden's existing style, ensuring your new build blends in perfectly with your home.
When is the best time of year to restore a pond?
While we can carry out structural repairs year-round, Winter (December to February) is the absolute best times for a major restoration. During these months, aquatic plants are dormant, and amphibians like frogs and newts have generally left the water to overwinter on land, causing the absolute minimum disruption to local wildlife.
